Saturday May 23, 2009: Honolulu Press Conference

Recently Hobbs issued a statement regarding managers rankings and designated classes, according to franchise performance. Manager Coltjj of the Honolulu Poi-Boys has called a press conference to address their placement. Below is Coltjj's ranking and a description of their designated 4th Tier "Medal-less" class. Followed by the Honolulu press conference.

Rank ---Manager --------Differential -----Win % -----------Total "W's" (all-time win rank)
20th. Coltjj ------------------- -28.6 ---------.411%------------------------- 200(7th)
21st. Rpsrn ------------------- -34 -----------.395%------------------------- 192(9th)
22nd. Iceman67 ------------- -45 -----------.361%------------------------- 117 (17th)

(4) The "Rebuild" or "Joker" Tier." Manager's who fall into this Tier have some serious work to do. For the most part these are your "rebuilding" managers who have compiled, on average, only 69 wins or less, and a .426% or lower. These "rebuild" manager's are those struggling to replenish the talent that has been lost or never was. These are the guys you see on your schedule and think, "This one's in the bag!"

Coltjj will now address us:
"I am not sensitive about the level we are in. But I do want to assure you all that the Poi-Boys are in a "building" mode and the target is to compete in the division and the league. Although it may seem like logging "beach time" is the priority here, the goal is still to win games. Those of you who were here the first year may recall that this team had very, very little (in the way of ML offense) to work with. Probably made a mistake in letting Kevin Greenberg go for what I got in return, but it seemed logical at the time. The chosen path of building the team is through drafting and some IFAs, not to build quickly through the FA market. Currently, the franchise is pleased with this season's minor league performance (making playoffs in rookie through AA). We are also pleased with our division's improvement especially threester's seasons last and this year (Go Pilots!!), and also the gung-ho attitude of mamba and his Las Vegas franchise. And of course, I have competed hard with Ice every year (except this year, he has kicked my ass). In the meantime, the surfboards are piled up, we got a pig roasting in the sand and the Kona beer is cold. GL to all in the playoffs."

It is definitely true that the Honolulu Poi-Boys and Coltjj had "very little" to begin with. In fact, this franchise was likely the worst team born from the creation of Hobbs World. After all, the franchise was awarded the 1st pick in first season's draft. With that selection Coltjj immediately sought to improve the team with Edgardo Amaral, a very promising young talent who has struggled, but only for lack of run support. Looking back over the past few seasons the "Boys" have had some rough seasons. They won 71 in S1, 62 in S2, and 67 in S3. Now it looks that they may just turn in an all-time low of around 60. So what does this mean?

Well, its oft said that things must get worse before they get better. Maybe this is the case! And according to Coltjj, from the looks of things, it is! While this franchise currently owns a "medal-less" 4th Tier team, at least according to the rankings, Hobbs is pleased to hear of the positive outlook on the future of the Honolulu Poi-Boys. And in fact, is not surprised at Coltjj's optimism. He has been a very good, dedicated owner and Hobb's is honored to have such dedication among its managers.

Since their very first pick, manager Coltjj has brought even more great, promising, young talent to the farm system. According to manager of the Kansas City Jayhawks, who recently took the stand in response to the Honolulu press conference, "You really do have some nice young talent in the pipeline coltjj. Definitely a team to be reckoned with in the next few years." To name just a few, Sean Jefferies, Russell Shannon, Dennis Hyun, Andres Park, and Al Carter. In fact the farm system in Honolulu is stacked with quality pitching who will potentially carry this franchise to the next Tier and so on. These prospects are definitely fruits of a diligent manger and should help Edgardo Amaral and Julian Forbes once at the parent club. That said, it looks as though this "rebuild" is well under way although it may require another year or two. It is, however, as Coltjj has made very clear, a true "rebuild" and not a joke! ;) Look for this team to improve in seasons to come and to rise from some local Honolulu and league criticism of "just logging beach time."
