Friday May 22, 2009: Kansas City Press Conference

At 80-69, the Kansas City Jayhawks currently hold the AL's 2nd wild-card spot. Manager Dakar will now address our Hobbs Media:

"Pennant fever is nearing epidemic proportions in Kansas City! After making a major statement by sweeping the Seattle Mariners, the fans are throwing away all reservations and making plans for the playoffs.
KC manager Dick Howser cautions that the upcoming 4 game series with the Huntington Tyro Mavins cannot be taken lightly however. "They're tough, and they know they need to beat us to stay in the wild card race. " Still the fans cannot help but be excited after a long 3 year building project has started to pay dividends. Starting with late season call-ups last year, the parent club has added future stars like Sam Cardona, Luis Concepcion, Edgar Cruz and Derek Rivers. Trades have brought in exciting young players like Jack Sierra and Lawrence Francona. With the latest call-ups of fledgling Jayhawks Pascual Rivera, Doc O'Neill, Al Alvarez, David Alvarado and Pedro Candelaria, the team is positioning itself for a long run of success. They now have a talent level that the inaugural squad could only have dreamed of. And as GM Cedric Tallis promises, "We are not through yet. We still have players like Shayne Kennedy and Derrick Kelly waiting in the wings. Our goal is to put together a team that can sustain long-term success like the fans of New Orleans, Seattle and Dover have enjoyed. Jayhawks fans have waited patiently through this building process and deserve to be rewarded."

Now closing in on their first playoff birth ever, Dakar and the Kansas City Jayhawks will attempt to hold on to at least that 2nd wild-card spot. Meanwhile, the woes of the The-Oat and his Seattle Mariners continue, now on a 9 game losing streak they have given up the division title spot to the hot Philadelphia Phillies, who are currently on a 7 game win streak. As Seattle appears to be just passing through (straight down that is) K.C. may just have that 1st wild-card spot soon. Whatever the case, K.C. is definitely headed in the right direction. This franchise had 69 wins in S1, 70 in S2, 77 in S3, and now already with 80 they are not only better but have a chance! And that's what this is all about, a chance! This cast of future stars is scary, look for K.C. to be a franchise to compete for a long time.
