S2 Spring Training Belongs to the Wonderboys

Although falling one game short of "Excellence", as the logo to the left falls one letter short of spelling it correctly, Kevbo65's Iowa City Wonderboys still deserve credit for a very impressive 17-1 record through spring training. While not exactly sure what "Excellance" is, the maker of this queer logo was probably retarded and later fired for his nimwitted spelling skills but in Hobbs World the A might just as well stand for Albequerque.

Threeseter's Albuquerque Pilots handed the Wonderboys their only loss in a high scoring 15-10 outing. Pilots finished with only a 6-12 overall record but one of those 6 was the A, the imperfection, to an otherwise perfect record . Sure, spring training is just a tryout of sorts and wins are essentially meaningless in the scheme of the regular season but a perfect spring training would still be nice. Still kevbo65 can take something from it all and that is: of all the "try-outs" he had the best "try-outers"!

Iowa City ranked 4th overall in runs scored with 127 and trailed only Iceman67's Surf Sharks and Hoss1's Bucos in placing 3rd among all teams in hits. They raked in 204 of them, and leading the league with 79 bases on balls, the Wonderboys earned the highest on base percentage (.391) which enabled so many runs to cross home plate. Related of course was their garnering the 3rd highest batting average (.314) and 3rd highest runs batted in totaling 124. The lesson here is simple baseball folks, get more men aboard than your opponent and your odds are best.

Still they were not without good pitching. In their 17-1 record the Wonderboys closed 13 of 14 save opportunities and ranked 1st in total saves albeit just 1 more than Kemosabe11's Bayou Bengals. They held their opponents and allowed a 3rd best 73 runs. Only dalejr88sr3's Witchita Speeders (10-8) and Palet99's Salt lake City Golden crew (8-10) did better. Likewise, the Wonderboys ranked 3rd in overall earned run average at 3.46, once again trailing only Witchita and Salt lake City (Who had the the best, a 3.26 era).

Kevbo65 made light of it which he ought to have, after all it is just training! In a later press release Kevbo65 stated, "I am just questioning the validity of this spring training record as I find it hard to believe that I can play that many different players and still win that many...I am already concluding that this will be a subpar year for us." It is in fact ONLY spring training, 17-1? So what!? As devonjain of the Charlotte Codes so nicely put it, "It's not how you start but how you finish." Either way, congratulations on a well played spring Kevbo65! It was all yours and still is for whatever it is worth!
