GAME 1: Box Score [6-8] Dover Diamond Devils take game 1! (Series 1 - 0)
Featuring SP Javier Mendoza 18-9 (N.O.) vs. SP Giomar Palmeiro 17-4 (DOV). The New Orleans Bayou Bengals drew first blood in the top of the 1st when Louie Hasegawa tripled and the very next batter, Dusty DuBose, lined a single. [1-0] The Dover Diamond Devils responded in the bottom of the 3rd with their own drawing of blood, scoring 5 runs following a series of hits started off by SP Giomar Palmeiro, including league MVP's Benito Canseco's 2 run blast to CF. [1-5] Once again New Orleans' hot bat of Dusty DuBose struck again, knocking out a 2 run homer in the top of the 5th, followed by Aaron Tabaka's RBI double. [5-5] The competition remained tight until the bottom of the 7th when both Kirk Kipling and Vin Aquino knocked in a couple of 2 out RBI's. [6-8] And then...when league Fireman Bud Evans entered, well, it was bad new for the Bengals. 13 pitches later it was game over! [6-8]
GAME 2: Box Score [3-1] New Orleans Bayou Bengals Take game 2! (Series 1 - 1)
Game 2 featured Geronimo Julio 21-9 (N.O.) vs. Rob Abercrombie 18-6 (DOV). All together game 2 was a hard fought, low scoring affair. Once again Dusty DuBose, of the Bengals started things off with a walk in the top of the 3rd, which eventually led to another of Aaron Tabaka's clutch RBI's, this one a 2-out RBI. [1-0] The Diamond Devils matched the Bengals one run when Dean Bullinger knocked in a 2-out RBI of his own in the bottom of the 5th. [1-1] The pitching duel continued and batters were retired, nearly one after the next, until the 9th! And then, with one out, Dusty DuBose, a Diamond Devil killer, stepped to the plate and smoked a line drive single to left center. The next batter, Vic Vazquez, topped things off with a shot to left center himself, a 2 run homer! [3-1] Hideki Jung made things interesting allowing 1 hit, and 1 walk, but after 22 pitches closed the game.
GAME 3: Box Score [3-5] New Orleans Bayou Bengals Take game 3! Series (1 - 2)
Moving the series to New Orleans and Zephyr Field, game 3 threw a twist on the runs being scored. Better yet, it became a small homerun contest. All of 8 runs were scored, all on homeruns! The battle featured league Cy Young Ismael Tavarez 20-6 (DOV) squaring off against A.J. Young 14-11 (N.O.). The first shot of the game came from Fred Henderson, a solo homer to left center in the top of the first. [1-0] In the 2nd the Diamond Devils did it again, this time is was a solo homer from Armando Perez. [2-0] Then, in the bottom of the 2nd, the Bayou Bengals swung back with a 3-run line drive homerun by Steve Payton. [2-3] The Diamond Devils Bill Knott was the next to knock one out, in the top of the 5th. [3-3] But once again the Bayou Bengals swung right back in the bottom, one solo shot by Louie Hasegawa followed up by a solo shot from Harry Hernandez. [3-5] The homeruns stopped there and in the 9th the Bengals turned to "not so trusty" Hideki Jung who made things interesting once again with 2 walks but when Pedro Mota stepped in the win was secured!
GAME 4: Box Score [16-9] Dover Diamond Devils take game 4! (Series 2 - 2)
Unlike the previous two games this game involved a much higher run total. Squaring off was Giomar Palmeiro 17-4 (DOV) and Slash Rowan 14-8 (N.O.). Once again the Bengals brought the continued efforts of a hot Dusty DuBose who went 3 for 5, scoring 2 runs and batting in another. Along his side was slugger Harry Hernandez who also went 3-5, scored 2 runs, but batted in 3! They even had a had great performances from Steve Payton and Doug Power who both homered. And with the score 9-6 heading into the 8th, looked to be taking a 3-1 lead in the series. That is until Benito Canseco (League MVP) stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and 2 outs. Two words changed everything, GRAND SLAM! It was 10-9 and Diamond Devils never let up. With the help of Fred Henderson who went 3 for 5, scoring 3 runs, and "player of the game" Dean Bullinger's 4 for 6 outing, including his 2 dingers and 5 RBI's, Dover took this game with ease finishing 16 to 9!
GAME 5: Box Score [5-0] New Orleans Bayou Bengals Take game 5! (Series 2 - 3)
Another home game for the Bayou Bengals does not disappoint, at least the home fans. This game featured Steve Riley 17-1 (DOV) who certainly didn't help things as he drilled two batters before leaving in the 6th vs. Javier Mendoza 18-9 (N.O.), who tossed a 7 hit shut-out while striking out 10, even picking a guy off in the top of the 2nd! The Diamond Devils just could not get baserunners around despite several hits, including 2 from league MVP Benito Canseco. On the other side of things Louie Hasegawa, Dusty DuBose, Aaron Tabaka and Harry Hernandez were at it again. But in the end game 5 was all about Javier Mendoza and the defense of the Bayou Bengals.
GAME 6: Box Score [9-4] New Orleans Bayou Bengals Take game 6! Series (2-4) New Orleans Bayou Bengals win!
