GOOD,BAD & UGLY!

The fortunes and misfortunes of the Helena Hill Williams continued to play out like a broken record this season. The deficiencies of the owner are well known and acknowledged. Hoping for one more decent season, most of the aging holdover from last season, ran out of gas.In addition,
the youngsters in the lineup largely proved they weren't quite ready for prime time yet. This "perfect storm" led to a 20 game drop in the team's performance. The good news is the Hill Williams eked out 63 wins-the bare minimum to insure their continued survival. As always,it is expected that next season will be better due to the new players added during the season. Another
dark cloud is what the owner sees as a practically non-existent farm system lacking any real prospects. It is hoped we will acquire a couple of free agent starting pitchers to bolster the rotation in the off season. The team has also substantially upgraded its defense.Following is a position by position evaluation of next season's lineup:
C Omar Feliz-late season acquisition brings a bat to the position, compensating for the failure of
young Hiram Carpenter to get on base. The power was there and the glove is outstanding so Carpenter figures to be a late inning defensive replacement.
1B-Tom Winston-also acquired recently,he's a solid hitter with a decent glove.
2B- Rule 5 acquisition  Lonnie Felson represents a defensive upgrade with a potent bat.
SS-late season acquisition James Fujiwara showed a lot of power and an outstanding glove.
3B-Rule 5 acquisition Ivan Morales, tons of power and led the team in RBIs.Needs to get on base more but he's young and still developing. Will never win a gold glove but his bat makes up for that
Tends to tire easily.
LF-Alan Duncan delivered what he was paid for. Power and speed with a nice glove. An all tools player.
CF-Carlton Wade will be 37 so he can't play every day but he stepped up to plug the hole left by a season ending injury to veteran Luis Almonte who is no kid at 36. Looks to defensively fill in and possibly be in the lineup to rest Wade.
RF-Eddie Jones. The unquestioned MVP of the team, got what we paid for.Power plus a team-leading batting average.
The starting rotation at this time(minus off-season free agents) looks like this at this time:
S1-Greg Willis-emerged from nowhere to lead the staff.
S2-Neftali Lee-young and still developing, acquired in mid season and looked good.\
S3- Steven Dransfeldt-solid,the star of spring training, then struggled early, recovered nicely.
S4-Dusty Kennedy-a shocker. Career minor leaguer who failied in previous big league tryouts. Struggled early, then settled down. If not in the rotation,is expected to lead the bullpen and spot start if an when needed.
S5-Livan Barajas-At 39,the old man made a nice recovery after struggling early. Showed he still had enough left to work in the pen and spot start, assuming he's not in the rotation due to new free agents.
In addition,we also have a stronger and deeper bench with the like of Tim Lofton,David Flores,
Hiram Carpenter,Rich Powell and the newly-signed Bing Anderson available for pinch hitting, resting players and injury replacements.
Overall outlook-gloomy,still sucks(especially the farm system.)
