ROY HOBBS SPECIAL AWARDS
Every year Roy Hobbs gives out special awards that WIS overlooks, or has not yet recognized in season play. This year has been an interesting year, many of the usual stars have continued to put up great numbers and a few new rising stars have reached stardom. So while we await the votes for the standard WIS awards, here are this years winners for Hobbs special awards!
The "Batting Title" needs no explanation!
So without further ado, the S7 "Batting Title" goes to: Brendan Flynn of Brettm1220's San Francisco Dedringers. Finishing the year with a .366 Flynn took the title without too much competition. His strongest competition was provided by the rising star Fred Henderson, of Drvmu1's Dover Diamond Devils, who manufactured a .350. Average, however, was not the only category that this behemoth at the plate lead this year; Flynn also lead the entire league with a 1.067 OPS, a .630 slugging percentage, and a .437 OBP. It should be noted that this guy can be found at or near the top of most categories despite playing in only 129 games. Give him 162 games and league records will fall, this guy is a batting machine! Congratulations to Brendan Flynn for winning this years batting title.
The "Iron Man Award": The most durable player of the year. Usually this guy never rests, never gets hurt, is never benched, he is the "Iron Man."
And the S7 "Iron man Award" goes to: Carmine Bryant from Jdrake27's Vancouver Spidermonkeys. The 27 year old Bryant started all 162 games at left field and put in a league leading total of 1448.2 innings! Despite his less than mediocre batting average of .244 he really made up for it in the field by contributing a league leading 18 plus plays among all left fielders as well as a league leading LF range factor of 2.41. Bryant is definitely the man you want out in the field, and has shown that he is capable of being there ALL of the time! Congratulations to Carmine Bryant for being this years Iron Man.Every year Roy Hobbs gives out special awards that WIS overlooks, or has not yet recognized in season play. The "Iron Man Award": The most durable player of the year. Usually this guy never rests, never gets hurt, is never benched, he is the "Iron Man."

The "Playmaker Award": The most exciting player in the field. The man who awes the fans without shock with his miraculous playmaking ability; a man people come to games just to watch play, and fielding coaches drool over.
And the S7 "Playmaker Award" goes to: Steve Neagle from Iceman67's San Diego Surf Sharks. Breaking the single season record this season with 26 plus plays Neagle fits the description for this award. He makes playing the field look easy, and changes the outcome of the game by doing so. 156 games, putting in a total 0f 1244 innings and had only 14 errors. Check you own SS's people and compare, only 14 errors!!?? Congratulations to Steve Neagle on winning this years playmaker award!
The "Boogey-man Award": The man most feared at the plate. This is the Barry Bonds of old, the man pitchers' dread having to pitch to and often don't. In fact, every time this man walks up to the plate they look over to the pitching coach and beg for that "free pass" sign.
And the S7 "Boogey-Man" Award goes to: Jim Killebrew of M22pank's Milwaukee High Lifes. Killebrew is no stranger to this award, this 27 year old first baseman has now won the award 4 of the 5 years it has existed, losing it only to the power of Alan Logan in S6. Killebrew drew 82 walks and hit 39 dingers in just 130 games and 486 at bats. His OPS was off the charts at 1.031 and finished the year with a .613 slugging average. Logan, and others were scary too, drawing more walks, but pitchers around the league actually rejoiced on Feb. 8th when Killebrew was placed on the 15 day DL with a strained quadricep. So Congratulations to Jim "Boogey-Man" Killebrew, again, on winning this years Boogey-man award!

The "Base Burglar Award": This award goes to the Rickey Henderson's of the league, was inspired by a Hobb's man named Hawk, and goes to the man who burglarizes the most bases throughout the season.
And the S7 "Base Burglar Award" goes to: Don Ross of Mal247's Las Vegas Beer View Mirrors. For the last 3 years this award has been owned by Bobby Mientkiewicz of the El Paso TaTa's. Mientkiewicz has dominated the award since he entered the "Bigs" but with Don Ross's first real full-time starting position since he made it to the Big League, and 112 stolen bases, he now has burglarized the burglar. A regular Rickey Henderson, Ross proved this year that given a shot he will definitely steal it! Congratulations to Don Ross for winning this years base burglar award!
This concludes our Season 7 Special Hobbs awards and we'll see you next season to determine S8 winners!
