LA Acquires Julio for Prospects

Los Angeles- The Los Angeles Stars rolled out the red carpet for their latest acquisition, former Cy Young Award winning pitching ace Geronimo Julio. Upon arriving to the stadium for his morning press conference, Julio was greeted by a contingent of Stars players as well as general manager ajf00529. When asked about the deal, which sent top pitching prospects Ed Thomas, Antonio Fox and Diego Gomez to Austin, AJF stated, “we are ecstatic to add a guy of his caliber to our rotation. When the opportunity presented itself, we knew we had to act fast. It was tough to part with those guys but we play in an extremely tough division and we need to win now… in the end we had to pull the trigger.” Before the trade was made, the Stars already boasted a solid starting staff, with Pepe Seguignol and Sven West at the helm. Adding Julio gives the Stars perhaps, the National League’s best starting rotation this side of Scranton. The trio, already dubbed LA’s “Big Three” posed for pictures, with Julio wearing his new Stars jersey as well as his Season 4 Championship ring that he won while with New Orleans. “I am here to help this team win, period. They say pitching wins championships, no? I think this team has the pitching to go all the way…I want another one of these,” he said smiling, pointing to his ring. Julio, 30, brings an impressive resume to LA. He is a four time All-Star and Season 1’s American League Cy Young Award winner. With 100 career wins, he is one behind Albuquerque’s Yuniesky Morales on the Hobbs’ career list. Ask about the transition to the National League he said “It’s the same game…The players are different, but the game is the same. I think I can be more successful in the National League having the opportunity to pitch in this ballpark.” Bringing in Julio also provides the team insurance should Pepe Seguignol choose to leave after this season. Seguignol, 25 has already established himself as a star (no pun intended) in this league. He is a free agent after this season and has already expressed his intention to explore the free agent market. Julio is signed through Season 8 and is due to earn $7.8 million per season, a relative bargain considering that Seguignol, a younger and far less accomplished pitcher is earning $9.3 million this season. When asked about his impending free agency Seguignol stated, “I love pitching in LA. The fans are great and the organization has treated me very well since I have been here. At the end of the year, me and my agent will sit down and talk…I would love to stay here in LA…This would be my first preference.”
