Season II: Spotlight Stories and Records

As this season nears its end the first player definitely worthy of mention is Sidney Fabregas. Fabregas already holds the the single season records for Hits, RBI's, and runs and is now treading on the single season HR record. The record currently sits at 61, which was set in Season I by Buffalo's Joe Hutton, who has only 7 on the year. Fabregas needs only 1 more to match that. The question, as was the question in the "real world" with Barry Bonds, is not "if" but "when" and "by how much" will it be beat? In the end Fabregas will add this to his many other accolades and should assume the lead in career homers and garner this years MVP honor as well.

In addition, as to record breaking, the Burlington Catamounts have a few things to say this year. Nicholas Cassidy has raised the Hobbs league hitting streak record to 31, beating the previous record of 25. Miguel Park , or "Miggy", as he is affectionately called in Vermont, is treading on the strikeout record of 255 set by Seattle's Adrian McGuire. Park currently has 209 thus far. With limited games left to play "If" is the more appropriate question here. Therefore, "if" he breaks it "Miggy" will assume the Strike out King status that McGuire currently holds. Lastly, Hawk Smith has little to worry about with his current lead at 136 and single season record of 170 in the stolen bases department. This guy is a straight up thief!

While New Orlean's Geronimo Julio's win record (22) appears safe for now with his current lead with 18, Albuquerque's Yuniesky Morales , of the Albuquerque Pilots has a shot at knocking down his single season complete games record of 13. So watch for Morales to be going the distance in the remaining match-ups. As is Julio with his wins, Bud Evans, of the Dover Diamond Devils appears to be safeguarding his single season save record (54) with his current lead at 42. Ismael Tavarez, of Dover, also appears to be defending his single season whip record (.98) with a current .94, but is having to fight back the pressure being laid on by Sammy Suarez. Suarez of the Jackson Stonewalls treads steadily behind Tavarez with a .96. What a battle this will be.

Lastly, but not least, Steve Smart of the Scranton Blue Collars leads the league with a 2.17 ERA and threatens the current record of .231 set by Geronimo Julio. Despite the teams difficulty this year, it appears Smart has maintained solid pitching.

This is all for now as to records that may be brought down at the end of the year when single season and career records are updated to the columns.
